LOL
Okay, so as I was waiting for Carson to finish more of our powerpoint so that I could put in the transitions, I decided to read our blog (and it's bookmarked!) to see if anyone has posted. :) (thank you Brittany, you keep my life interesting)
And at this moment, I can't help but wonder what Angela, Brittany and Brian are doing or what could possibly be happening at the LA Zoo this hot.... summer.... Thursday....
Oh, I had such a busy day working on powerpoints non-stop. There is only 1 hr 15 min left of the work day and Carson and I are in a JAM trying to finish this powerpoint for managing group health . Jason is busy busy working on the auto/home powerpoint and Joan seems to be done with hers.
Tomorrow, the interns, mentors and some of the other employees are going to have our last lunch together at a Thai place nearby, which I'm really looking forward to it.
Ok, back to work!

Currently wondering: Am I the only one who posts on this blog? =(
Currently working on: My iManager PowerPoint assignment from Michelle.
Current mood: TOO EXHAUSTED TO FEEL ANYTHING =/
Hello to probably no one else except myself (whenever I do decide to come back to this blog in the future and reread what I've written)! I have been working on my iManager PowerPoint for almost 4 hours straight now and I need a break from it! =( It currently has 35 completed slides but there are still so many more to come! I really hope I can be done with it by the time I leave work tomorrow.
Hm, what else is there to write about?
The 2009 Summer Internship Program will finally come to an end next Friday. The thought is so bittersweet! It will definitely feel extremely weird not having to leave my house at promptly 8:50 A.M. every morning, arriving in the parking lot at precisely 9:22 A.M., waiting in my car listening to KIIS FM for exactly 8 minutes, and then coming into the office to greet everyone's tired faces (everyone except for Brian, that is. He's always late. HAHA).
- EDIT 9:39 A.M. FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 2009 -
Oh no! I never got a chance to finish blogging yesterday =/ I had quite a bit to do, so I guess I'll finish it now!
Continuing on from yesterday:
... I really will miss everyone when this is all over. It's going to feel weird walking around the house all day; I haven't done that in too long. But I suppose all good things come to an end. I truly learned a lot from this internship. I especially liked the lessons that Henry taught - he's an awesome teacher!
So, as I was getting ready for work this morning, I suddenly remembered that on the very first day at KCAL, Kenny told us all to open the notebooks that they had provided us to the first page, and write down the thoughts and emotions that were running through us at that very moment. I still have what I wrote, and it reads:
"
July 6, 2009
Sitting in this room with the other 5/6 interns, I am filled with both anxiety and excitement for the weeks that lie ahead. Logging in 30+ hour weeks from today until I leave for New York, I desperately hope that this internship will be a rewarding experience that I can learn a lot from.
"
Haha. It's so short! I guess I didn't get the chance to finish jotting everything down.
Man, the more I think about it, the sadder I get! Angela also wants us to prepare a 3-5 minute speech to recite at our scholarship ceremony next Friday.
Well, I have quite a bit of work to do. So I shall end this post here.
I hope I get the opportunity to blog again before I leave this place!

Once again, taking a quick break from HawkSoft to blog. The interns been working on HawkSoft all day. I started on a new sheet after lunch and I'm about half way through. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this sheet (and maybe start another one?) by the end of the day. At 5:00 P.M., the interns are going to listen to Jim give a presentation in the Conference Room. We were also hoping to hit up one of the other KCAL branches today (so that all of his employees could sign it), but since Kenny's card is still being passed around this branch, it doesn't look like we'll have time to go today. They're all located so far apart from each other, so we have quite a bit of driving to do. We've decided to take turns though, so that no one has to drive too much. Tomorrow, the interns are also going shopping for some of the supplies that we'll need for Sunday's barbecue. Allie told us earlier today that we won't need to purchase any of the perishable food at Costco anymore; she'll go herself on Saturday (she doesn't want anything to go bad). But we still have a lot of chips/cookies/decorations to buy, so we'll definitely be hitting up a bunch of places tomorrow and Friday. Carson has his own Costco card, hooray! Okay, back to HawkSoft I go!

Tuesday, August 4, 2009
Currently, everyone is working on a different project. Adonia and Carson are working on a PowerPoint presentation, Jason is attempting to get a car quote, Brian and Joan are inputting data in HawkSoft, and I am taking a little break from HawkSoft to blog :)
Kenny's birthday BBQ is this Sunday at 12 P.M. at Schabarum Regional Park. The interns are in charge of it. I think we've decided to go out and buy all the food/supplies on Friday afternoon. Everyone invited is encouraged to bring their entire family, but the number of non-family guests is limited to one.
At the beginning of lunch today, Angela invited me to join her and Kenny for a lunch meeting at the nearby temple. It was my first trip to that temple; it was really pretty :) We ate at its vegetarian cafeteria. Yum :)
This coming Tuesday, all the interns (except for Carson :( he'll be busy) are taking a trip to the nearby bowling alley after work to bond bond bond! Hooray for that!
Okay, back to HawkSoft.
Goodbye.

Friday 7-17-09
Friday (7-17-09) was presentation day. Most of the morning and early afternoon was spent preparing for the presentation. During the presentation, B&B and Carelifornia did an excellent job presenting. Kenny gave us wonderful presentation and marketing tips. Even though my group did not get a chance to present that day, we did learn from the other groups and got a better idea of how to do a better job on our presentation, and of what to include.

Today, we did last minute prep on our presentations, and the other two groups, joan/carson and brian/brittany, did their presentations already. They were really good! Jason and I will have to go on Monday and I think they may be expecting us to do better. Eek!
This week, we did a lot of data entry verifications and although it was pretty mind numbing, I really didn't mind. We also learned to do cold calling.
I'm really looking forward to next week because after a week with a lot of down time, we're going to be busy busy busy! :D

Today, we spent almost the entire day working on our marketing projects because the Hawksoft program wouldn’t work. At the end of the day, Carson and I finally presented. It went pretty smoothly, I think. Brittany and Brian went after us, and they did an awesome job! Poor Adonia and Jason didn't get to go :[ Through the presentations, I learned a lot about marketing, from Kenny and from Britney’s group. Running a business is a lot more complicated than I expected… So this is my very first blog entry. Hope it's not too lame..? :]

Presentation Day
Well, it's now 5:27 PM, and I'm ready to leave for the weekend =) After two weeks working on our Marketing Research Presentation (as well as cold calling and data verification, among other things), Brittany and I finally presented our project today. I didn't really get nervous until just before we started, but I got over it by my second slide. Overall I think we did pretty well. Joan and Carson went before us; theirs was pretty bomb too. Adonia and Jason go first thing Monday, good luck guys. If you can't tell, I'm new at this blogging thing, and now its past 5:30, so now I'm gonna go enjoy my two days off. Bye =)

It's finally Friday! After a long week of verifying data entries, 2 out of the 3 groups (Joan/Carson, Brittany/Brian) have finally presented their Market Research Projects! Kenny had some business to address and was unable to stay any longer so the last group (Adonia/Jason) will give their presentation on Monday morning. The presentation went much better than I had anticipated. Hooray! I will be gone all of next week; I hope I don't miss TOO much. I am very excited to go to Woodland Hills with the team sometime during the first week of August :) There is so much left to come!
Until next time,
Brittany

After a long morning of checking and double-checking endless data entries for errors, the 2009 internship team finally finished going through innumerous stacks of packets at approximately 3:00 P.M. At that time, each of the three pairs of "aspiring business men and women" (Joan/Carson, Adonia/Jason, Brittany/Brian) were given the rest of the day to work on their first research project. Although not officially due until Friday, when each group will be presenting its findings to Kenny, all three groups have been told by their respective mentors that outlines of the presentations are expected by Thursday. Luckily, Brian and I are almost completely done with our presentation. We definitely have a few tweaks to make here and there, but after compiling a thorough 40-slide show, we have decided to take a quick break from staring at the PowerPoint window and work, instead, on the mini-project that our mentor, Annie, assigned to us earlier today. The assignment is to help research the most frequently asked questions and the biggest concerns that most people have regarding group health insurance. Annie told us that KCAL is planning to make an 80-page booklet to offer to its customers that will address any question and concern that they may have. The presentations that we are going to give on Friday must be a minimum of 10 minutes long (per group). Brian and I anticipate our presentation to last about 30 minutes. Yikes! I hope there isn't a maximum time limit allotted to each group! Brian and I are also very curious to see what the "prize" that will be rewarded to the "winning team" will be. I hope it's a good prize (and I hope we win it! =]) Two more hours in the office for me (one more hour for the rest of them).
Until next time,
Brittany
Until next time,
Brittany
